About

G.L.G. Garvey was born in Western Australia and still calls Perth home. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s in psychology and has always been fascinated by how people think, feel, and behave—a day job that naturally bleeds into her fiction. She’s been dreaming up stories since childhood, when Tolkien’s grandeur, the open worlds of The Elder Scrolls, and the wonder of Scholastic book fairs first taught her the thrill of exploring impossible worlds.

She is currently working on an epic fantasy with an emphasis on character, bringing the fantastical to life as a way to explore what it means to be human. For her, fantasy is where magic and myth reveal the emotions and choices that define us. She believes the best stories let us feel the impossible, and see the real more clearly for it.

Garvey was shortlisted for a Faber Writing Academy scholarship at Allen & Unwin, and is currently undertaking Faber Writing Academy’s Writing a Speculative Fiction Novel 2025/2026 program. She is an Australian Writers’ Centre alumni, having completed multiple courses to further develop her craft.

When she’s not reading or writing, she can usually be found lifting weights, adding to her LEGO collection, exploring open-world RPGs, or watching the birds in her native garden. Her final boss: laundry.

Current Projects

Powerbringer (in final revisions):A warrior scion turned disgraced mercenary is drawn into a quest against the tyrant king who shattered her family, only to face an ancient magic that once nearly broke the world. Power has a price, and as vengeance, legacy, and honour shape her, she must confront what it truly means to wield it—and who she will become.

Untitled Prequel (in planning): Thousands of years before Powerbringer, two sisters rise to power—one to rule an empire, the other to burn it down. Their bond and rivalry forge the legends and magic that will echo through history.
